That's Hot! PSP Burns Through Kid's Pocket

In a strange twist, a PSP handset caught fire while in a child's pants at school. Harold Clay, 12, was in band class when the Sony Playstation Portable caught fire in his pocket.

Clay wasn't given much warning, as the portable device quickly heated up and burned through his pocket. Taught to "stop, drop & roll", that's exactly what young Harold did.

The portable console was reportedly turned off when it caught fire. Clay's parents have contacted Sony and are trying to determine if any other cases have been reported. PSP batteries have been known to explode and/or breakdown, but I haven't seen any other cases like this where an individual was harmed by the burning device.

In an ironic twist, the name of the game in Harold's charred PSP - "Burn Out".

The PSP left 2nd degree burns on Harold Clay, who luckily was not hurt worse.

Bouncy: Virtual Lap Dances Vol 1 - Adult UMD, XXX UMD

It's official... Adult UMD's for your PSP. Yes, you can now order "porn" on your Playstation PSP. Although Bouncy's Virtual Lap Dances Volume 1 doesn't market itself as an XXX title, the UMD does show full nudity and some cowgirl sex.

Did I mention it was cheap? The Virtual Lap Dances DVD is selling right now for only $13.99, so it's definitely not like buying a new PSP game or even some real Adult DVD's. The site does say that it's not going to be released until 2010, but I really doubt the wait is that long.

Here's a description of the Virtual Lap Dances UMD/DVD from Bouncy:

The reviews of the XXX UMD aren't all that great at this point, but they appear to be fake anyway, so you're probably getting exactly what the DVD title indicates - virtual lap dances... nothing more, nothing less (ok, so a lot less clothes). :P

Buying the game will be difficult for anyone under 18, so stay away if you fit in that category.

Sony Discounts PSP to $169.99

Sony Entertainment released news today that the Playstation PSP has been discounted to $169.99, exactly $30 off of the previous price (it was $199.99). The price cuts are effective immediately, so you don't have to wait to go and get your PSP for the new low price.

The announcement comes on the 2nd anniversary of the PSP.

Sony also declared the following PSP games to be part of their PSP Greatest Hits collection, which means each game is now only $19.99:

• PSP Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror

Both announcements are great news for PSP gamers around the world. Continuing to improve upon their products and making it easier for players to get into the games later in the product life cycle is key to keeping sales & profits rising.

Ok, so there are a few PSP games in common among the Top 10... You can definitely tell that the guys over at Pocket Gamers had more exposure to a variety of games than the folks over at Amazon.

A couple things that stand out here:

• Daxter is cleary the #1 PSP game of 2006 - If you don't already have it, then you better go get it.


• Other games making both lists: Tekken: Dark Resurrection, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, LocoRoco, Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy and Lumines II.


• How can two Grand Theft Auto games make it into the Top 10 PSP games of 2006 at Amazon? They're the same damn thing - pick something a little more original will ya...


• Amazon seems to heavily favor fighting games more so than Pocket Gamer does... Again, it looks like they need to open up to a bigger variety of games.


• A surprise... no Sports themed games on either list. You're telling me Madden 07, NCAA Football 07, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, NBA Live 07 and MLB 06 The Show weren't good enough to warrant a Top 10? Guess the reviewers don't like playing sports games. Madden 07 is a top seller on Amazon (currently #3 PSP game).

Paramount Pictures Designs First Film Site for PSP Geared to Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson's 'Get Rich or Die Tryin''

PSP users who have downloaded the PSP 2.0 operating system will be able to surf wirelessly to http://www.50psp.com/ and access the PSP-exclusive site for "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," starring Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and directed by six-time Academy Award(R) nominee Jim Sheridan.

Built specifically to take advantage of PSP's aspect ratio and surfing capabilities, the site will contain trailers, wallpapers, webisodes, and photos that PSP users can download directly to their PSP devices.

Commenting on the announcement, Powell said, "We're thrilled to have built the first movie-related PSP-specific site -- it's just one example of how we're always looking for new ways to reach online moviegoers. As we move into a mobile world, it's important to be aware of the ways advances in technology affect information access. In addition, 'Get Rich or Die Tryin'' is a perfect match for the first PSP-exclusive movie site; the PSP is huge in the hip-hop community and 50's fans are avid PSP users."

Prior to the "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" PSP site, PSP users who wanted to play movie trailers would first download the trailer to their desktops, then transfer the file to the handheld device. With the release of PSP's OS 2.0, users can now browse the internet with the device, downloading information directly to the PSP. With the introduction of http://www.50psp.com/ Paramount Pictures introduces the first film site designed specifically for the device.

Sony has sold upwards of six million PSP units worldwide with an expected total unit sales of 12 million by the end of 2005, a rate which has already far outpaced the introduction of the iPod. A recent report from Sony also indicated that an anticipated $250 million of UMD movies will be sold by year-end, making the PSP the fastest growing multi-media platform ever, beating the first year numbers during the launch of both the iPod and the DVD player combined.

Just released for the Sony PSP in August 2005, is the 80's flick Ghostbusters, from Columbia Tri-Star Pictures, starring Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver.

Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the script, but Bill Murray gets all the best lines and moments in this 1984 comedy directed by Ivan Reitman (Meatballs). The three comics, plus Ernie Hudson, play the New York City-based team that provides supernatural pest control, and Sigourney Weaver is the love interest possessed by an ancient demon. Reitman and company are full of original ideas about hobgoblins--who knew they could "slime" people with green plasma goo?--but hovering above the plot is Murray's patented ironic view of all the action. Ghostbusters UMD Movie for Playstation Portable reviews
Reviewer: Gregory Cortez - One of the best movies to hit the 80's is now on the up and coming PSP. Who would have thought that Ghostbusters would still be so popular 20 years later. Great movie. If you have a PSP it is a must buy! Even if you don't have a PSP, get the new double set they just released on DVD. It has both movies and some of the cartoons on it as well.

Reviewer: Alan Attebery (Arlington, TX USA) - Ah. The paranormal. Just when you think its safe to write such things off for good, along comes a movie that will make you laugh at them.

Drs. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) work for the parapsychology department at Columbia University in New York. While Dr. Venkman doesn't really believe in the paranormal (he's really only in it for the chicks), the other two do. And just when the three do find proof that ghosts exist, the University revokes their funding and kicks the three off the campus.

Not to be held back, the three open their own business and call it, what else, Ghostbusters. Although business is slow at first, soon the three are up to their knees in ghosts. And before long, our ghostbusters are not only fighting ghosts, but also the EPA.

"Ghostbusters" was an immediate hit when released in the summer of 1984. It eventually went on to gross over $220 million and land at #7 on the all-time box office charts (at the time of this review, it is currently ranked at #40 with over $230 million). In addition, the movie has gone on to gross over $112 million in movie rentals.

There are many reasons why this movie has become a cult favorite with its fans. Some of the funniest lines in the movie were not written, but actually ad-libbed during filming. This is a testament to the comedic genius of Murray, Aykroyd, and Ramis. The Oscar Nominated song "Ghostbuster" by Ray Parker, Jr., is still one of the best movie songs of all time. In addition, there is the always eating, green ghost who slimed his past Dr. Venkman and into our televisions sets as Slimer in the 1988 animated cartoon series of the same name. And who can forget the giant Stay Puff Marshmallow Man? Not before or since has there been a movie monster as great as this guy.

If you have never seen this movie before, you should watch it at least once. Chances are that you will become a fan of it.

A gamer - This game, like the console version, blows away all competitors. The SCEA baseball game called MLB 2006 lost many touches that made it the only contending baseball simulator. This game has amazing graphics. However lost is franchise, which no PSP games this year will have and online mode, which MLB 2006 has. However there is still a season mode and you can create players, which you can not do on MLB 2006. MVP also has console quality graphics and the hitter's eye. For those new to the MVP franchise, the hitter's eye is very useful. Right before the opponent throws a pitch, the ball in his hand turns a color for a split second. PSP Lumines Game Review
Tommy (Naperville, Illinois United States) - I was a little leary of getting a "puzzle" game for the PSP, but I went with the reviews and lo and behold...I've played almost nothing else on the PSP! This game is great, it's addicting, if you listen to the audio through a set of headphones, the experience is almost all-encompassing.

It's just a well made game...to me, it's like an ultra-hip version of Tetris. It's the "Thinking Man's" game for PSP. :-)

Brian Reaves (Anniston, AL USA) - If you own the PS2 version of Spider Man 2, that may have scared you off from buying this one. Don't let it! This is really a good game all by itself, and it is completely different from the PS2 version that came out last year. The graphics in the cutscenes are amazing (much better than the PS2), and the real actor's voices are used again. Gameplay is relatively simple to catch onto (there's a tutorial, but no Bruce Campbell this time). It's a great introduction to the PSP, and I'd highly recommend it as a starter game. If this is how it's going to be, then the PSP is going to rule!

D. Keh "Electro-wireless Gadget Lover" (OC, CA, USA) - The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was the shining, crystal clear, liquid-like 4.5" screen! If you cover the control pad and buttons to reveal just the screen, you might think this is a tiny Plasma screen you're holding! I also own a Nintendo DS, so I am being very fair here; the dual screens is a nice touch; my wife loves to play ZooKeeper using the stylus; but compare the screens to the Sony PSP's screen, it is not as sharp as the PSP.

The menu on the PSP is pretty intuitive, easy to navigate. Control pad and buttons are layout just like a regular Sony PS2 controller, except the joystick on the PSP, it looks like a round tape covering a hole or something, and I almost thought it is something I should remove. The analog pad is a little hard to use when playing any game requires precised movement, like Super bobble pop type of game, or shooters using cross-hair; but once get used to it, not a problem.

I also tried some MPEG4 video playback using a 512MB MS Duo, now this is what a portable AV player should be! It's like watching a DVD movie on a plasma tv, smaller of course! No wonder Sony is going to including SpiderMan 2 movie for the first 1 million PSP shipped in the US. Watch it and you will see what I mean.

(Press from PRWEB) April 1, 2005 -- The PSPs Around The World Gallery (http://www.pspworld.com/gallery/) is an open, registration-free photo gallery where PSP owners from across the globe can come to share photos of their PSPs and share some of their culture, personality, and creativity at the same time. PSP owners are urged to take a picture of their PSP in front of any landmark that might describe where they are from or where the picture was taken.

To celebrate the official opening of the gallery, PSPworld is holding a best photo contest. The top three submissions will all receive prizes, with the first place winner receiving a 512MB Memory Stick Pro Duo from SanDisk. What are UMD (Universal Media Discs) for the Sony PSP?

The UMD (Universal Media Disc) is a newly developed compact, high capacity optical format that can store up to 1.8 GB of digital data on a 60mm disc or an entire feature film on a single UMD video. Movies on UMD will be produced in 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio and encoded using advanced AVC compression, which provides a high level of picture quality. Universal Media Discs (UMDs) are playable only in the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) and are not compatible with contemporary DVD players.
