Get Rich or Die Tryin' movie for Sony PSP, starring 50 Cent

Paramount Pictures Designs First Film Site for PSP Geared to Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson's 'Get Rich or Die Tryin''

(Press from PRNEWSWIRE) October 9, 2005 -- Paramount Pictures Interactive Marketing has built the first movie web site specifically for PlayStationPortable (PSP), it was announced today by Amy Powell, vice president of Interactive Marketing for Paramount Pictures. PSP users who have downloaded the PSP 2.0 operating system will be able to surf wirelessly to http://www.50psp.com/ and access the PSP-exclusive site for "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," starring Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and directed by six-time Academy Award(R) nominee Jim Sheridan.

Built specifically to take advantage of PSP's aspect ratio and surfing capabilities, the site will contain trailers, wallpapers, webisodes, and photos that PSP users can download directly to their PSP devices.

Commenting on the announcement, Powell said, "We're thrilled to have built the first movie-related PSP-specific site -- it's just one example of how we're always looking for new ways to reach online moviegoers. As we move into a mobile world, it's important to be aware of the ways advances in technology affect information access. In addition, 'Get Rich or Die Tryin'' is a perfect match for the first PSP-exclusive movie site; the PSP is huge in the hip-hop community and 50's fans are avid PSP users."

Prior to the "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" PSP site, PSP users who wanted to play movie trailers would first download the trailer to their desktops, then transfer the file to the handheld device. With the release of PSP's OS 2.0, users can now browse the internet with the device, downloading information directly to the PSP. With the introduction of http://www.50psp.com/ Paramount Pictures introduces the first film site designed specifically for the device.

Sony has sold upwards of six million PSP units worldwide with an expected total unit sales of 12 million by the end of 2005, a rate which has already far outpaced the introduction of the iPod. A recent report from Sony also indicated that an anticipated $250 million of UMD movies will be sold by year-end, making the PSP the fastest growing multi-media platform ever, beating the first year numbers during the launch of both the iPod and the DVD player combined.

The main site for the film is http://www.getrichordietryinmovie.com/. The film opens in theaters on November 9.

Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, one of the biggest and most popular stars in hip-hop, is the charismatic driving force behind "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," a hard-hitting drama directed by six-time Oscar(R) nominee Jim Sheridan about an orphaned street kid who makes his mark in the drug trade but finally dares to leave the violence behind and become the rap artist he was meant to be.

Paramount Pictures presents an Interscope/Shady/Aftermath and MTV Films production of a Jim Sheridan film starring Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. Directed by Jim Sheridan from a screenplay written by Terence Winter, the film is produced by Jimmy Iovine, Paul Rosenberg, Chris Lighty, and Jim Sheridan. The executive producers are Gene Kirkwood, Stuart Parr, Van Toffler, David Gale, Arthur Lappin and Daniel Lupi. Paramount Pictures is part of the entertainment operations of Viacom, Inc., one of the world's largest entertainment and media companies and a leader in the production, promotion and distribution of entertainment, news, sports and music.

Napolean Dynamite DVD (UMD for PSP) review

From Twentieth Century Fox Home Video, comes the release of one of the most popular movies in decades, Napolean Dynamite. This is the new UMD Mini (Universal Media Disc) format for the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP).

  • Napolean Dynamite stars: Jon Heder, Jon Gries, & more
  • Director: Jared Hess
  • Encoding: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only)
  • Rated: PG
  • Studio: Twentieth Century Fox Home Video

As deadpan comedies go, Napoleon Dynamite stands in a class all its own. Played by John Heder, the title character is (in the words of critic Roger Ebert) "the kind of nerd other nerds avoid," a mouth-breathing dweeb with a mangy nest of orange hair, and ungainly features that suggest a perpetual state of half-conscious depression. He lives in Preston, Idaho (former home of 24-year-old director Jared Hess) with his thrill-seeking grandma and 32-year-old brother, and his days at high school consist mostly of being abused or ignored by indifferent classmates. Napoleon's sad-sack story doesn't offer the scathing, impassioned humor of Welcome to the Dollhouse because Hess (who cowrote the nearly plotless screenplay with his wife, Jerusha) doesn't have an angst-ridden axe to grind. Instead, the comedy (which exists in a tacky universe of worn-out rural suburbia) is so low-key that some will find it difficult to laugh, while others (i.e., those who feel superior to Napoleon) will have plenty of fun at Napoleon's expense. The result is a curiously uneven film, hilarious at times, but hampered by its own sense of affectionate mockery. An audience favorite at the Sundance film festival, Napoleon Dynamite may not be entirely lovable, but it's definitely unique. - Jeff Shannon

Personally, Napolean Dynamite is one of those movies where you either get it, or you don't. To a lot of people, mostly in the MTV crowd, this is one of best movies in a long time. To others, it's not worth their $5. If you grew up in a small town or outside the city, you should enjoy Napolean Dynamite - it pokes fun at a lot of things we thought were "cool" back in the day.

Napolean Dynamite UMD Movie for Playstation Portable review
Reviewer: Robert W. Moore (Chicago, IL USA) - I love independent films, but the truth is that some of them you have to cut a tiny bit of slack due to their lack of resources. But not NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. Seeing this was one of the most delightful, unexpected pleasures that I have had in a movie in a long, long time. Most high school comedies dealing with school nerds are a bit of a cheat, because the nerds are never really as nerdy as the ones we all knew or (or perhaps were) in high school. My favorite TV show is BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, but I could never really buy the ultra-cute Alyson Hannigan as a school nerd. But not so Napoleon Dynamite, his friend Pedro, or Deb, the reserved and shy girl he has a crush on.

No explanation is made of Napoleon's name, but any Elvis Costello fan knows that in the 1980s he declared that he would no longer be known as Elvis Costello, but instead as Napoleon Dynamite, under which name he released what may have been his last great album, BLOOD AND CHOCOLATE. The producers have independently declared that they were unaware of that and chose the name without reference to Elvis Costello. This is, of course, utterly absurd, about as believable as someone making a movie with the lead character named Anna Karenina but claiming to be ignorant that Tolstoy had a character by that name.

The movie depicts the private hell that is the life of Napoleon Dynamite, a hopelessly inept misfit at Preston High School in Idaho, apparently without any friends at all until he stumbles upon a new Hispanic student Pedro, who apparently is incapable of speaking any word with more than one syllable or of smiling (until the very end of the film). Napoleon makes nerds look cool. School is such hell for Napoleon that it seems perfectly normal for one kid as he is walking down the hall to body slam him up against his locker. It isn't just that he is clueless, he is cursed; he not only thinks it is OK to stuff tater tots into his pocket, unwrapped, for snacking on later, it is inevitable that another kid will crush them in his pocket when he refuses to share.

If Napoleon's life is awful at school, it is as bad at home. We are clueless as to the whereabouts or fate of his parents, but his slacker and equally nerdy brother provides neither companionships nor solace, and when his grandmother injures herself in a ATV sand dune accident, his Uncle Rico, a fortyish Peter Pan so desperately yearning for 1982 that he orders a home made time travel machine over the Internet, who is as pathetic in his own way as either Napoleon or his brother Kip.

Plot is not really important in the film; the process of Napoleon's life is. This could easily have been a terrible film, but director Jered Hess (born, by the way, in Preston, Idaho), who co-wrote the screenplay with his wife Jerusha, displays throughout a deft touch at keeping things interesting and funny instead of merely silly. The actors are all excellent, though for the most part near unknowns. I recognized only two performers, one being Diedrich Bader, who has been in a number of roles over the years, perhaps more memorably in OFFICE SPACE as the protagonist's next door neighbor, with whom he would have conversations through the wall. Here he has a hysterical stint as an absurd martial arts instructor. I also knew Tina Majorino, who has been in a number of films over the years, primarily as a child. She does a great job as Deb, though her role (as is Napoleon's) is a bit of a cheat on the audience. They make her up to be as unattractive as possible, when she is, in fact, quite a cutie, as the improved hair-do at the end of the film proves. The cheat with Napoleon is the fact that he . . . well, I won't spoil things. Let's just say that by the end of the film he isn't the helpless nerd we imagine. I especially enjoyed Efren Ramirez as the monosyllabic Pedro. He underplays his role to the point of parody.

I do highly recommend this movie. NAPOLEON DYNAMITE is a thoroughly unique, fun, and funny film, that isn't quite like anything else I've seen. One might say that it is not unlike a male-oriented version of WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE set in rural Idaho.

Ghostbusters DVD (UMD for PSP) review

Just released for the Sony PSP in August 2005, is the 80's flick Ghostbusters, from Columbia Tri-Star Pictures, starring Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver.

  • Starring: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, & more.
  • Director: Ivan Reitman
  • Encoding: Region 1
  • Studio: Columbia Tri-Star

Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the script, but Bill Murray gets all the best lines and moments in this 1984 comedy directed by Ivan Reitman (Meatballs). The three comics, plus Ernie Hudson, play the New York City-based team that provides supernatural pest control, and Sigourney Weaver is the love interest possessed by an ancient demon. Reitman and company are full of original ideas about hobgoblins--who knew they could "slime" people with green plasma goo?--but hovering above the plot is Murray's patented ironic view of all the action. Still a lot of fun, and an obvious model for sci-fi comedies such as Men in Black. --Tom Keogh

Ghostbusters UMD Movie for Playstation Portable reviews
Reviewer: Gregory Cortez - One of the best movies to hit the 80's is now on the up and coming PSP. Who would have thought that Ghostbusters would still be so popular 20 years later. Great movie. If you have a PSP it is a must buy! Even if you don't have a PSP, get the new double set they just released on DVD. It has both movies and some of the cartoons on it as well.

Reviewer: Alan Attebery (Arlington, TX USA) - Ah. The paranormal. Just when you think its safe to write such things off for good, along comes a movie that will make you laugh at them.

Drs. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), and Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) work for the parapsychology department at Columbia University in New York. While Dr. Venkman doesn't really believe in the paranormal (he's really only in it for the chicks), the other two do. And just when the three do find proof that ghosts exist, the University revokes their funding and kicks the three off the campus.

Not to be held back, the three open their own business and call it, what else, Ghostbusters. Although business is slow at first, soon the three are up to their knees in ghosts. And before long, our ghostbusters are not only fighting ghosts, but also the EPA.

"Ghostbusters" was an immediate hit when released in the summer of 1984. It eventually went on to gross over $220 million and land at #7 on the all-time box office charts (at the time of this review, it is currently ranked at #40 with over $230 million). In addition, the movie has gone on to gross over $112 million in movie rentals.

There are many reasons why this movie has become a cult favorite with its fans. Some of the funniest lines in the movie were not written, but actually ad-libbed during filming. This is a testament to the comedic genius of Murray, Aykroyd, and Ramis. The Oscar Nominated song "Ghostbuster" by Ray Parker, Jr., is still one of the best movie songs of all time. In addition, there is the always eating, green ghost who slimed his past Dr. Venkman and into our televisions sets as Slimer in the 1988 animated cartoon series of the same name. And who can forget the giant Stay Puff Marshmallow Man? Not before or since has there been a movie monster as great as this guy.

If you have never seen this movie before, you should watch it at least once. Chances are that you will become a fan of it.

PSP Coded Arms Game Review
Reviewer: Jean "jeancarlo12" ) - I have this game and its awesome, the graphics, the shooting the gameplay and all. I will recommend you people to buy this game and when your playing to put the controls like this: moving-Dpad, aiming-control stick, shooting-L and R buttons, jump-X button. I put them like that and its easy. This game has some repetitive areas but I dont care cause I have over 30 weapons to select, you'll never get tired of shooting all those enemies with your weapons because its kinda cool when you let the thrigger on and it continues shooting, although your ammo will end its cool. The giant bugs and the giant computer bot is a bit difficult but its still cool.

Terminator 2 (UMD Mini for PSP) review

Lions Gate Home Entertainment presents Terminator 2, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger & Linda Hamilton on the new UMD Mini (Universal Media Disc) format.

  • Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton
  • Director: James Cameron
  • Encoding: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only. This DVD will probably NOT be viewable in other countries.)
  • Rated: Not for sale to persons under age 18.
  • Studio: Lions Gate Home Entertainment

After he pushed the envelope of computer-generated special effects in The Abyss, director James Cameron turned this hotly anticipated sequel to Terminator into a well-written, action-packed showcase for advanced special effects and for one of the most invincible villains ever imagined. Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a legitimate sequel: there's more story to tell about a hulking, leather-clad android (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who arrives from the future to protect a rebellious teenager and future leader (Edward Furlong) from being killed by the tenacious T-1000 robot (Robert Patrick), whose liquid-metal construction makes him seemingly unstoppable. The fate of the future lies in the balance, with Linda Hamilton (who would later marry her director) reprising her role as the rugged woman whose son will change the course of history. - Jeff Shannon

Terminator 2 UMD Movie for Playstation Portable review
Reviewer: Brett Michael Roberts (Renton, WA USA) - This new "Ultimate Edition DVD" of Terminator 2 Judgement Day, one of the biggest box office smashes of all time, is truly The Ultimate Edition. Unless you get this outside of the US (which I did) you have two disks. One disk is the movie (THREE versions of the movie, in fact), and the next disk is all the special features. And it takes DAYS getting through every feature. I mean, three documentaries, 8 trailers and TV spots, an entire script, interviews that you can access separately, and 52 chapters of behind the scenes footage, from makeup to visual effects, from editing to restoring deleted scenes. There are so many special features, this is what DVD was made for! You can also look at the original drawings of certain scenes, awesome!!!!

However, I find the real highlight of this disk (or disks) to be the movie itself, I mean WOW!!! You get three, I repeat, three, versions of the movie. One is the original theatrical version, featuring no cut out scenes (the worst), the special edition, featuring 16 minutes of additional footage (second best) and the Extended Special Edition that you need a code for (the best) which features 18 minutes of additional footage, as well as an alternate ending. Here, now, I will give you a step-by-step description of how to get this extended special edition. I'm sure most of you people reading this know how to already, but this is for those who didn't know this version existed, or don't know how to get it. What you do is, you go to the features menu. It'll say "Theatrical Version" and "Special Edition". Click on "Special Edition". Then, you highlight "Play Special Edition" and type in (you may have to type ENTER in-between each number) EIGHT TWO NINE NINE SEVEN (8 2 9 9 7) and then, the "Go To Theatrical Version" option changes to "Play Extended Special Edition". This is the definitive version of the movie. I believe that every single little, tiny scene that they cut out is in this version. Well, thats the code, now back to my review.

The picture and audio on this disk are SO awesome, you won't believe it. Crystal clear picture, and sound so loud that it's like you're in a movie theatre. The additional, restored scenes are remastered as well, and slip perfectly into the movie. If you haven't even seen the film, you won't even notice these scenes put into it. Usually, on additional scenes, the picture is dirty and shakes. Not in these added scenes. And, to make it even better, the scenes are presented in 2:35:1 widescreen anamorphic format. Yes!! Just the first disk makes this DVD the ultimate edition!! Also, there's an audio commentary by 26 members of the cast and crew, however, this commentary is just interviews put together to sound like a commentary. However, there's a noticable glitch in the theatrical version, due to the commentary. Well, if you watch this commentary on one of the special editions, you'll notice it's the same commentary as the theatrical version, but they talk about deleted scenes as well. You may, also, notice that they continue talking about the deleted "Dream Sequence" at the hospital, when it goes into the next scene. So, now, when you watch the theatrical version, you'll notice that the beggining scene with Sarrah Connor watching the tape from six months ago, the beggining of the scene is cut off!!! Oops! Well, that's forgivible.

Now, the second disk (or the second side of the disk) has lots of special features. The three documentarys include "The Making Of Terminator 2 Judgement Day", "T2 More Than Meets The Eye", where they talk about deleted sequences and the reason they were cut. The last is "The Making Of Terminator 2 3-D Breaking The Screen Barrier", about the making of that 3-D terminator ride. I loved that ride (yes, I went on it) and this documentary is really interesting. The rest of the features, well, I'm not sure I kinow all of them. Maybe YOU should discover all the features on this disk. If you own the previous DVD release of T2 (which had no extras), then trash it and get this "Ultimate Edition". You WON'T be disappointed.

PSP MVP Baseball Game Review
A gamer - This game, like the console version, blows away all competitors. The SCEA baseball game called MLB 2006 lost many touches that made it the only contending baseball simulator. This game has amazing graphics. However lost is franchise, which no PSP games this year will have and online mode, which MLB 2006 has. However there is still a season mode and you can create players, which you can not do on MLB 2006. MVP also has console quality graphics and the hitter's eye. For those new to the MVP franchise, the hitter's eye is very useful. Right before the opponent throws a pitch, the ball in his hand turns a color for a split second. Each color symbolizes a different pitch. This disc is definately a great buy.

PSP Tiger Woods PGA Tour Game Reviews
Smithy1185 (San Diego, CA USA) - If you want a portable golf game that is very close to matching the console versions, then look no further. This is a great game that is a lot of fun to play and take with you on the PSP. This version still has the feature where you create your own golfer with lots of customizable options. You can also upgrade their skill points after earning some cash on the green. Its true that the load times are pretty long. Easily the longest I have seen when compared to the other PSP games I have. However, don't let that scare you off from playing a great game. The controls are very well done although its not quite as easy as on the consoles. Also, this game is much better on the PSP than it is on the GBA or DS. Anyways, this game is worth getting if your a golf fan and want a new game for your PSP.

Gerald D. Avery "Movie Buff" (Chicago, Illinois) - I love playing this game. This was one of the first titles I bought for my PSP when it was released. Granted some of the load times are a bit long, but if you have some time to spend you should definitely give this game a shot. The graphics are great for a handheld game. No other game even comes close to matching it. The real fun for me is the challenge of creating a golfer from scratch and improving upon his attributes until he's able to compete with Tiger or Vijay. I play as Tiger and win as much money as I can so that I can improve my created golfer. That's the quickest way to earn lots of money so that your golfer can be competitive in a short amount of time. I highly recommend this game. I think it's well worth the $50.00 you'll spend to get it. I hope this review was helpful...

Are We There Yet? DVD for Sony PSP review
blackaciddevil (in the USA somewhere...) - Having had my Playstation Portable for, almost, a month now; I thought I'd get around to getting a movie to watch on it just to see how good things were with watching one on it. Because my choices were limited, I was stuck with choosing between this one or National Treasure. Thankfully, I chose "Are We There Yet?". I'm really glad I did because this movie is downright hilarious. The story goes a lil something like this....Nick, a playboy bachelor, and Suzanne, a divorced mother of two, is threatened by a particularly harrowing New Year's Eve. When Suzanne's work keeps her in New York City for the holiday, Nick offers to bring her kids to the city from Washington D.C. The kids, who have never liked any of the men their mom has dated in the past, are determined to turn the trip a nightmare for Nick. And, boy, is it ever a nightmare. Ice Cube turns in one of his most comedic performances in his career in this movie. I didn't think I'd like this movie too much beforehand but, after watching it, I think it was money well spent. I'm really glad it was the first movie that I got for my PSP. Which, I'd like to add as a sidenote, the PSP's capabilties of showing movies on the system is well past what I expected of it. It's high quality UMD video. I commend Sony for doing such an outstanding job with the PSP(It's, definitely, the Walkman of the 21st century). I can't wait to see what other movies will become available for the PSP now. Who knows, I might start me a whole library of them to watch on the go. Getting back to the review, however, if you hadn't seen Are We There Yet? yet....do yourself a favor and see it. It's a movie the whole family can see.

Hitch DVD - UMD for Sony PSP

Columbia Tri-Star pictures presents Hitch starring Will Smith on the new UMD Mini (Universal Media Disc) format.

Will Smith's easygoing charm makes Hitch the kind of pleasant, uplifting romantic comedy that you could recommend to almost anyone--especially if there's romance in the air. As suave Manhattan dating consultant Alex "Hitch" Hitchens, Smith plays up the smoother, sophisticated side of his established screen persona as he mentors a pudgy accountant (Kevin James) on the lessons of love. The joke, of course, is that Hitch's own love life is a mess, and as he coaches James toward romance with a rich, powerful, and seemingly inaccessible beauty named Allegra (Amber Valetta), he's trying too hard to impress a savvy gossip columnist (Eva Mendes) with whom he's fallen in love. Through mistaken identities and mismatched couples, director Andy Tennant brings the same light touch that made Drew Barrymore's Ever After so effortlessly engaging. As romantic comedies go, Hitch doesn't offer any big surprises, but as a date movie it gets the job done with amiable ease and style. --Jeff Shannon

Hitch UMD Movie for Playstation Portable review
Cenk Sumbas (Florida) - I really suprised to see such a wonderful performance from Will Smith. It is a very good comedy. Hitch (Will Smith) is a date doctor and gets always lousy guys who wants very hot and young ladies. He helps them to achieve their objective. But the last client was the guffiest accountant (Kevin James) and he wants inaccessible beauty named Allegra (Amber Valetta). They start to work together and somehow miracle happens. It is a comedy that you can watch it many times and laugh again and again.
